Accessibility
We build sites that people can actually use, including people who do not use a mouse or cannot see the screen. Here is where this one stands.
01 What we aim for
We aim to meet WCAG 2.2 Level AA. That is the standard UK public sector websites are held to, and we think it is a reasonable bar for everyone else too.
This is a statement of intent backed by testing, not a formal certification. We have not commissioned an independent audit of this site.
02 What we have done
- Every part of the site can be reached and operated with a keyboard alone, and focus is always visible
- Text meets AA contrast against its background, and so do the buttons
- Headings are in a sensible order, so screen reader users can skim the page the way sighted users do
- There is a skip link to jump straight past the navigation
- Images that carry meaning have descriptions, and decorative ones are hidden from screen readers rather than described pointlessly
- Tap targets are at least 44 by 44 pixels
- Text reflows without a horizontal scrollbar down to a 320 pixel wide screen, and can be zoomed to 200 per cent
- Animation is subtle, and is switched off entirely if your device asks for reduced motion
- Form fields have real labels, and errors are explained in words rather than signalled by a red outline alone
03 Where it falls short
Being honest about the gaps is more useful than claiming there are none.
- The site has been tested with keyboard navigation and automated checks, but not yet with every screen reader and browser combination
- Screenshots of client websites are decorative here, so the detail inside them is described in summary rather than in full
- Fonts and icons load from third party services. If those fail, the page still works but will not look as intended
04 Telling us about a problem
If something on this site is hard to use, we would genuinely like to know. Tell us what page it was, what you were trying to do, and what got in the way. We will reply and we will fix it.
Email contact@uploadweb.co.uk or use the contact form.
05 Your site, if we build one
The same standard applies to client work as a matter of course, not as a paid extra. Accessible sites are easier to use for everyone, tend to work better on older phones, and read more clearly to search engines.
If you have specific requirements, whether legal or because you know your customers, say so early and we will build around them.
